This document contains the instructions for installing and registering your JBuilder 2007 product. Please read these instructions entirely before installing JBuilder 2007.

To use the ProjectAssist functionality, check the Include ProjectAssist installers and configuration tools box on the ProjectAssist dialog page during the JBuilder 2007 install. This option is only available when installing on the Windows XP and Windows 2003 through one of the JBuilder 2007 Enterprise editions.

The JBuilder 2007 product is available in four editions: Installation Installs the following components JBuilder 2007 Enterprise Borland ALM Edition Installs all features and components of JBuilder 2007 Enterprise, including ProjectAssist, TeamInsight, Web Services, EJB, Peer-to-Peer, Together UML, OptimizeIt, certified Eclipse bundle and more. In addition, it adds support for the ProjectAssist assimilation of an existing StarTeam installation. You can now select StarTeam as your change request, task and version control systems through the ProjectAssist/TeamInsight component stack. This product edition also includes a copy of JBuilder 2006 Enterprise edition.

JBuilder 2007 Enterprise Installs all features and components of JBuilder 2007, including Web Services, EJB, Peer-to-Peer, Together UML, OptimizeIt, certified Eclipse bundle and more. Also provides team enhancing features and tools through the installation. It also includes a copy of JBuilder 2006 Enterprise edition. JBuilder 2007 Installs a subset of JBuilder 2007 Enterprise features. It provides a complete environment for developing and deploying Java applications. JBuilder 2007 provides accelerated development capabilities for Java and open-source programming plus a visual Web Services Designer, and an integrated Optimizeit 2007 for Eclipse that provides for debugging, memory and CPU Profiling. JBuilder 2007 Turbo Installs Eclipse in a simple, certified bundle.

Popular plugins are delivered together as a turn-key installation, along with CodeGear-added JSE project import tools from previous versions of JBuilder and peer to peer messaging for team collaboration. The Application Servers screen appears. This screen lists the runtime servers that are available for use in building web applications and web services. They are not related to your ProjectAssist server installation. Check any that you want to install. The default is to not install these servers. You will be asked on the Choose Shortcut Folder screen for the locations of shortcut installs. Click Next to accept the default location or specify another option from the list.

If you encounter errors when installing JBuilder 2007 using the main installation launcher, you can install each component separately. Under some circumstances, it may take a long time for the installation program to exit and close after completion.

Do not forcibly exit the program; it will eventually close down successfully. Note: You cannot install ProjectAssist on Red Hat Enterprise Linux. This error occurs when the DVD driver is having trouble reading from the DVD. In this case, try copying the contents of the DVD into a temporary directory on your hard drive and then launch the installer from that location. If the files cannot be copied from the DVD to the hard drive because of read errors (for example, error -1, read errors, etc.), check the DVD for scratches. If the DVD is visibly damaged, please call disk replacement to be issued new media by calling 831-461-9190. If the contents of the DVD still cannot be copied to the hard drive, an alternative is to simply download and install the appropriate trial version of JBuilder. The trial product will be converted to a full product by using your serial number during registration.

Make sure that you choose the download that matches the license (that is, a serial number for Developer will NOT activate the Enterprise Trial). The Trial downloads may be accessed from the following location: In this case, make sure to download and install any supplementary files on the same page as the main download (e.g documentation, samples, extras). The main installation program does not launch when the DVD is inserted. To eliminate possible conflicts with other third-party software, disable anti-virus software (e.g.

Stop the service), exit out of any other currently running software, and then retest the installation. In Windows XP, you can automatically do this using the msconfig.exe tool to restart your system in a diagnostic mode that prevents third-party services from starting up. To do this:. Choose Start Run.

Enter msconfig and click OK. Under the General tab, select Diagnostic Startup and click OK. Restart your system and start the JBuilder 2007 installation program again. After successfully installing JBuilder, repeat these steps, changing Diagnostic Startup to your usual Startup mode. The installation programs seems to start, but then freezes at the splash screen. To troubleshoot installation graphics driver issues, try the following:.

First, visit the website of the manufacturer of the graphics card to download and install the latest driver. Windows XP: If the issue is not resolved, try turning down the graphics card acceleration. Start the JBuilder installation program again. The installation progress bar may stay near the end for a very long time, making it seem like the installation program has hung. Do not end the program; the installation will complete successfully after a period of time. Registering JBuilder 2007. When you run JBuilder 2007 for the first time, you will need the serial number and key provided with your copy of the product. You can use JBuilder 2007 for 14 days after installation without registering.

After 14 days, JBuilder 2007 will not run until it has been registered. ( Note: There is no grace period for upgrade and trial versions, or for Optimizeit® products. These products must be registered before they can be used.) Trial users: See the front label of your product DVD for the URL or visit to obtain your trial activation files. Start JBuilder 2007. If you use a proxy to connect to the Internet, then enter your proxy settings when the Proxy Settings dialog appears. Otherwise, click Next. When the Information Summary dialog appears, verify that the information to be registered is correct. If the information is correct, click Next. Otherwise, click Back and correct the information before proceeding.

Your registration information will now be transmitted and processed. When the message 'Registration completed successfully!' Is highlighted, click Next. Click Finish. The registration process is completed. Completing registration by email If you are completing your product registration by email:.

When the Information Summary dialog appears, verify that the information to be registered is correct. If the information is correct, click Next. Otherwise, click Back and correct the information before proceeding. When the Email Registration dialog appears, click Clipboard Copy to copy the information provided to your system clipboard. You will need to paste this into the body of an email message. Send an email to and paste the information from your system clipboard into the body of the message. Click Next.

Click Finish. When you receive the email containing your activation file, you will need to repeat the registration process, this time choosing the. Completing registration using the web If you are completing your product registration using the web page:. Click Next. Record the Registration Key provided. You will need this to complete your registration. Click Finish.

Using your web browser, go to to complete the registration process. Click Finish. When you receive the email containing your activation file, you will need to repeat the registration process, this time choosing the.

Completing registration by telephone If you are completing your product registration by telephone:. Select your location from the Telephone Number list. Call the Customer Service number for your location. Keep the Phone Registration displayed. You will need the information it contains to complete the registration process. Click Finish.

When you receive your activation file, you will need to repeat the registration process, this time choosing the. Using or creating a CodeGear Developer Network or Software Registration account Select one of the following options:. I have an account Select this option if you have a CodeGear Developer Network or Software Registration account from a previous CodeGear product registration. Click Next. Enter either your CodeGear Developer Network Member or Software Registration Account login name or your e-mail address. Enter your CodeGear Developer Network Member or Software Registration Account password. Click Next.

I don't have an account Select this option if you do not have a CodeGear Developer Network or Software Registration account from a previous CodeGear product registration. Click Next. When the User Information dialog appears, enter the following information:.

You can click Privacy Policy to view the privacy statement. Click Next. When the New Account Information dialog appears, enter the following information:. A login name for your Software Registration Account.

Your e-mail address. A password for your Software Registration Account. ( Note: The password must be at least 4 characters in length and must not contain any spaces.). Verify the password for your Software Registration Account by entering it again. You can click Privacy Policy to view the CodeGear privacy statement. Click Next.

When the Additional Information dialog appear, complete the required fields:. Country. State/Province (if your selected Country was United States or Canada). Zip Code.

Click Next. When Contact Preferences dialog appears, select your preferred contact methods. Click Next.

Registering with an Activation File. When you're using a concurrent license for your CodeGear product, you might have occasions where you want to work offline, rather than connected to the License Server. The License Manager provides Check Out and Check In features that allow you to work offline. When you check out a license, you need to specify the duration of the check out.

Once you've completed your offline work, you can check in the license to return it to the license pool. The client product has to be able to reach the License Server in order to check in the license. Concurrent licenses are listed on the server in a userlist-concurrent.txt file. The maximum checkout time is set by the server administrator for each user. Follow these simple steps to check out a license:.

Choose Tools License Manager to open the License Manager. Right-click the Concurrent Network License node in the tree on the left and choose Check Out License. Enter the duration time in hours in the License Duration (hours) field.

You can't exceed the maximum checkout time set by your server administrator. See your administrator for the maximum setting. Click OK to close the Checkout License dialog box. A Checkout Successful message displays. Click OK to close it. A red check mark displays next to the Concurrent Network License node to indicate that you're disconnected from the License Server and can use the product offline.
